Step 1 : Researching Your Croatian Ancestor

Croatian genealogy research often begins with records and information already available about your ancestor. Immigration and naturalization records, death certificates, marriage records, and other family documents can provide important clues about identity and place of origin. Names and locations may appear differently across records because of spelling changes, translation, language, or historical place names. We compare information across multiple sources to identify the correct ancestor and determine where in Croatia the next stage of research should be conducted.
Step 2 : Research in Croatian Archives and Registries
We identify archives, registries, and parish sources.
We search for birth, marriage, baptismal, and other records that document your Croatian ancestry.
We research Croatian sources that may not be accessible through standard online databases.
Many Croatian genealogical records are held locally and cannot be found through standard online genealogy databases. Depending on the ancestor, location, and time period, research may involve civil registries, Croatian state archives, parish registers, and historical collections. Older records can also be affected by changes in borders, jurisdictions, languages, and place names. Identifying where a record should be held is therefore an important part of the research itself. We use the information established during the ancestor research to determine which Croatian sources should be searched.
Step 3 : Obtaining Official Croatian Records
We obtain available official records from the appropriate Croatian authorities.

Finding an ancestor in a historical record and obtaining an official document for a citizenship application are not always the same thing. Once a relevant record is located, we determine whether an official copy can be issued and which Croatian authority is responsible for providing it. We then arrange for available records to be obtained for the client.
